One of my favourite flowers the May blossom or Common Hawthorne, the clumps of pretty white flowers with numerous deep pink stamens are a welcoming sight of spring. The flowers have a delicate scent with five petals on each, which bare fruit later in the year an important food supply for wildlife in the winter months. The fruit known as haws are commonly used to make jellies, jams and syrups, the petals and leaves are also edible and can be used in salads.
